AN INTERACTIVE BATCH OPERATING SYSTEM FOR THE BESM-6 MULTICOMPUTER COMPLEX (DISPAK)

      One approach used to develop a time sharing operation system in the BESM-6 multicomputer environment is presented. The paper considers the issues related to multicomputer Complex operation, OS scheduling facility improvement, computer system memory organization, creating a terminal control system, data management system, interactive systems for remote terminal job input and program debugging in terms- of source programming language; computer system logging facility design, internal OS structure improvements, and constructing a facility for program package generation. Some operational characteristics of the DIAPAK OS are given.

      The paper considers the basic software of the BESM-6 multicomputer system disc storage in DIAPAK OS, developed from associated DISPAK programs during further improving and long-term multicomputer system operation. A general software structure is given, along with a detailed description of a data exchange with discs.
      The complex development (with its major steps such as increasing computer number, expanding the disc storage, database creation, designing a general- -purpose system) was continuously followed by efforts aimed at increasing the computer system efficiency.
